Because of her unusual skill, the black hen is the unhappiest, least popular layer in the henhouse. But with the help of a clever hare, the bullied black hen receives a surprising invitation that the other chickens could only have dreamt of. The black hen finds happiness and takes her rightful place in the world. She learns to rely on her own skills and talents.

A VISIT OF THE MARIONETTES
I’m not just fascinated by the fact that the puppets are old; it’s more that they bear the marks of living their lives. They are the result of something that’s required a lot of blood, sweat and tears. Their charm conceals centuries of product development.
-Bojan Baric, Teatterilehti magazine-

For all ages, recommendation: over 3 years
Running time at full length: 35-60 min.
Performance does not require a clear understanding of Finnish or another language

The puppets in this performance are antique variety show marionettes. They were made by master puppeteer JosefVitek, who is considered to be the Stradivarius of the puppet world. A Visit of the Marionettes honours the old Central European tradition of marionette theatre. There are only a few puppet artists in the world who perform with marionettes. A Visit from the Marionettes presents a collection of circus artistes, dancers and musicians performing to musical accompaniment. The marionettes come to life on stage. Each gets its own moment in the spotlight, with music, dance, song and circus tricks.

Programme for adults

3D DIRTY, DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS

3D will frighten you, thrill you, make you laugh, astonish you and get you talking. It’s one of the true gems of this autumn’s theatre offerings that you’ll remember long after seeing it.
-Kai Saarto, Kaarinan Uutiset newspaper-

For adults, recommendation: 13 years and over
Running time at full length: 60 min.
Performance does not require a clear understanding of Finnish or another language

When the studio lights go down, real human destinies meet behind the scenes, and several hungry people appear around the chef’s table on the food programme.
3D is a black comedy about our culture of instant gratification. This performance flambés equality, people’s control over their own bodies, the price of our soul, and individual choice and responsibility. True multinationalism means a Babel of languages and unintentional misunderstandings. Only a few people realise the true cost of these new experiences.

Director: Neville Tranter
Performers: Martti Suosalo and Satu Paavola with five full-sized puppets
Script, puppets and stage design: Satu Paavola
